This book actually isn t useful for designing your home work space It s a book of photographs of bespoke designs, i.e., designed for a single unique place, generally a small urban loft or similar The spaces are designed by an architect and specially built for a singular building or part of a larger building. But what bothered me the most about these designs is that I can t imagine anyone really living and working in them They are all made up of hard, shiny surfaces, almost entirely white, mostly empty with a few tiny, uncomfortable chairs and stools here and there There are ladders and open steps without a wall, banisters, or non slick treads that I can t imagine could be allowable by any building code No one, evidently, has any children.Clever architectural playthings, almost all of them One home, in Spain, actually looked livable and lived in The others are toys.
